Lucio Fontana: "light and color" not only cuts

<< In my profession as a painter, making a picture with a cut, I do not want to paint a picture: open space, a new dimension in the orientation of the contemporary arts [...].>>

Lucio Fontana, in 1905 he moved from his native Argentina in Milan, where he attended the Brera Academy alongside the sculptor Adolfo Wildt .
learns from this experience the importance of conceptual and not imitative work of art, the principle of a symbolic-abstract space and strength of materials.
Between 1940 and 1946 the artist is in Argentina. And it is precisely within this cultural context that produces the Manifesto Blanco , preface to the first poster of spatiality, which he signed in 1947.
The term "space" refers to the new possibilities given to artists by science and new technologies.
These new tools allow you to conceive space and time dimensions beyond the conceptions of "traditional" offered by Renaissance perspective or from the decomposition cube-futurist.
the IX Triennale in Milan in 1951 (the year when drawing up the manifesto of the art space) produces the famous neon "light" space, a sculpture Abstract suspended from the ceiling and made up of neon tubes that reproduce <>, as pointed out by the artist himself. Since 1958, developed the series of Space Concepts (expectations), monochrome canvases characterized by cuts that give his research a contemplative direction. 900

New visual identity of the MIT Media Lab

An extraordinary and innovative work.
The new visual identity of the MIT Media Lab has been inspired by the community from which it is composed. The people who come to MIT come from many different fields, engineers, scientists, artists, designers, and have different ways of thinking, seeing and working. At the lab these people meet, collaborate and inspire one another and this is the magic of this luogo.L 'outcome of this intersection is the logo. The cones are arranged on a square grid that represents the basic structure for each logo generated. The grid, though invisible, symbolizes the environment, the MIT Media Lab, which allows all of this academically, physically and intellectually.
The algorithm is a processing and generates each logo. The development team has created 40,000 logos and twelve different combinations of colors (for a total of 480,000). Exporting SVG from Processing and then converting to PDF CMYK in Illustrator (using scripting AI).
The logos are based on a square grid (square costitutuita from 4 × 4). Each of the three forms can move inside the grid according to a certain set of aesthetic rules (must touch the sides of the square, must intersect with other forms). It has also been developed through a web interface to which each person can choose a logo for their business card (for the letterhead, etc.).

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC A house steering wheel!

Experiment conducted by engineers at National Geographic proof that a house like the old man flying up, the Pixar film released in 2009, may exist outside of cartoons. In the film Mr. Fredricksen, a widower, decides to realize the dream of his wife to reach the Paradise Falls in South America. Not wanting to leave the house where they had lived together, a place of many happy memories, binds to the roof hundreds of balloons filled with helium and, thanks to a complex navigation system, able to overcome bad weather and continents before finally reaching its destination.
In fact a team of scientists, engineers, two pilots of balloons and a troupe of the National Geographic Channel, has made off a small house with a base of five by five meters high and about five feet, supported by three hundred balloons with a diameter of eight feet. The launch took place from a private airstrip east of Los Angeles and the home, which flew for about an hour, reached an altitude of over three kilometers. The event, which you can see a video below, recorded a new world record as the flight of the largest set of balloons and will be broadcast on National Geographic Channel in a program called How Hard Can it Be? (How can it be?).

TOMPERT WITH MICHAEL APPLE BECOMES THE ART

Apple products have become objects of worship.
Tompert Michael, an artist from San Francisco (and former Apple employee), investigated in a "brutal" the report objects to these products by the brand Steve Jobs.
Insight was random: the artist had given her two children iPod Touch, which had begun immediately litigarseli furiously, to resolve the issue has requisitioned the gifts, saying that the two, after all, were fighting only for fools objects. Before the eyes of children, has also thrown to the ground one, breaking it.
The gesture caused the silence in the house of mourning and a day, for an object already considered a desire to 8 years. The artist has discovered a way to photograph the world in products disintegrated. After having destroyed
, vivisection, photographed and printed in large format large numbers (with an investment of money and time, a year, not indifferent), came to a close but not too trivial: we are obsessed, we are employees, but in the end ... are just objects that become obsolete within a year.

From a artistic point of view, the operation is reminiscent of the Dada and Surrealist works: contemporary status symbol vivisected once again becoming objects, hardly more familiar. As Magritte would say: "This is not an iPhone. "

PS: the photos of the artist have just been exposed to the Live Worms Gallery in San Francisco.

Slinkachu: Little People project

Little People is a project of street art and photography was born in London in 2006 by Slinkachu . Poetic, hand made, really beautiful, it is very small underground installations where everyday people realize the set telling urban scenes.
The Little People are born with the desire to think and reflect on the feeling of loneliness and melancholy that live in a big city can generate: looking at the skyscrapers that make up the typical landscape of a metropolis, I challenge any of us to feel larger than these thumbnails . But always with a backdrop of humor and empathy that allows us to identify with the characters. Also delicious side project "The Inner City Snails, snails in are decorated and then left free to continue their work in London: a satire of street art and our wish / need to cover every surface with graffiti, symbols, advertising.
The Little People have been collected in a book that contains the most beautiful photo set, "Little People in the City: The Street Art of Slinkachu" eye to evidence of each set to build a thin narrative superimposed on the images.

NAPOLI UNDERGROUND: The charm of the city parallel study

Forty feet deep beneath the shouting and characteristic streets of the historic center of Naples, is a world apart, for a very unexplored, isolated in his quiet, yet thousands of years closely linked with urban activities' the womb of Naples, which itself was born. Visiting it means making a trip back in time two thousand and four hundred anni.Ogni long time, since the founding of Neapolis to the bombs of World War II, has left its mark on the walls of yellow tufa stone with which the city of Naples lies underground costruita.Nel a labyrinth of tunnels, cisterns and cavities forming a real city that was taken, in the negative, the city surface.
Descend with us into the bowels of the city to discover the history and mysteries.

History
A Neapolitan proverb says, "Me stáj purtann vic p 'and vicariell," referring to those who want to take a thorny subject in another direction. Still, the alleys and vicarielli speaks of this said, seem to be inspired by the shape of the city's underground, consists predominantly of narrow tunnels where they can enter only a few people at volta.I passages on which stands the city of Naples have a ' The first changes ancient origin morphology of the territory, brought by the Greeks since 470 BC, were dictated by water supply and the need to recover building materials to erect the buildings of Neapolis. In later centuries the expansion of the city led to the creation of a real waterworks that collect and distribute water through a series of tanks connected to a network of tunnels. During the Roman rule the aqueduct was extended and improved, but with the advent of Anjou, in 1266, the city had a large number of buildings which, of course, an increase of extraction of the tuff from the ground to build new buildings, confirming a peculiarity of Naples to be generated from their bowels. Only in 1885, after a terrible epidemic of cholera, was abandoned the use of the old water distribution system to adopt the new aqueduct, which is still in operation.
The final phase of underground was the second world war, when it offered refuge to the population to adapt the structures of the aqueduct to the needs of citizens. Were set up 369 shelters in all of Naples in cave shelters and 247 landslade. After the war, the lack of transportation, almost all the rubble were dumped into the ground, burying with them, even all the memories of that sad period. Until the end '60s has not spoken about the underground, although many continued to use the wells as a dumping ground. After 20 years of excavation and remediation, and thanks to the commitment and sacrifice of volunteers who, after work, descended into the bowels of Naples to unearth an artifact of that historic grandezzaun - it is still possible to see the page unprecedented in the history of Naples.

The legend of "Monaciello"
Each house in the city of Naples, could draw water from the cistern below through a shaft to which he had access to the "pozzaro", a class of professionals, who moved deftly in these caves walking along narrow passages and climbing up the wells through the holes at a distance more or less regular.
These characters, real lords of the underworld had free access to all homes with wells and gave rise to anecdotes and legends still alive in the imagination like that of the Neapolitan "Monaciello, benign or malignant spirits that occupied most of the lady home that the water supply, and used the subway who knew, or appear to disappear under the cloak work in the shadows, resembled precisely the habit of Monaco.
